MTV The Hills Episode Recap For Better or Worse

Wow, so Jason is engaged? Really!
As I suspected, Lauren had no idea Jason was dating someone, much less engaged. I don’t love the way Jason sprung that information on her — that he’s in relationship or that he’s going to be moving in with Katja. I kind of like Jason’s style, but he can be a douche. Not as much a douche as Spencer, but he has his moments. He doesn’t treat Lauren with the dignity and respect she deserves. I’d think that about any girl he dated in the past, but it’s especially true with Lauren. They were in a serious relationship and they even lived together. Now they’re trying to be friends — well, I should say Lauren’s trying to be a friend to Jason but he’s crapping all over her. And why would he have a housewarming party with alcohol? He’s fresh out of his program and he’s having a party with booze? And he’s in a relationship, which Lauren says is against the rules of his program? He’s heading for a relapse, and fast.
The other relationship drama this week is with Heidi and Spencer, and I must admit I didn’t see it coming. They have such an “us against the world” attitude usually, but I think that only really surfaces when they’re being attacked. If they don’t have to present a united front to others, I think they turn on each other. But Jen definitely helped push Heidi into questioning some of Spencer’s motives. I really enjoyed seeing Jen play the devil’s advocate, planting the seed of doubt in Heidi’s head about her relationship. I think Heidi and Spencer are going way too fast and it’s quite possible they won’t be together in five years. I don’t even think they will be together next year. When all of the drama with her and LC is said and done, she and Spencer will be done too… jmo. I loved Jen bringing up these things and Heidi saying she was in the wrong frame of mind, but clearly some of those concerns stuck with Heidi. I mean, what’s she supposed to think when Spencer doesn’t want to register? But beyond that, what’s she supposed to think about Spencer’s parents being absent from the wedding because he hasn’t told them he’s engaged? Run. Run for The Hills, Heidi.
And I think we were all expecting Whitney to get into some sort of trouble with her boss eventually; Lisa does not play around. I’m not quite sure why Whitney feels it’s OK to go out drinking with Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. It’s not her job to be their friend, it’s her job to make sure the photo shoot goes smoothly, and drinking large quantities of alcohol the night before usually doesn’t bring about good results. She’s young and I think she really learned her lesson here. And she got off easy; things could have really gone badly. If Lisa’s only real criticism for Whitney was about hanging out with the band, I think she’s doing a good job. Yeah, she shouldn’t have done it, but she’s learned her lesson and I’m sure she won’t do it again.
So these are the qustions that are going through my mind:
• What do you think about the way Jason told Lauren he had a girlfriend? Or that they were moving in together? Or that he was engaged (although he technically didn’t tell her)?
• Why do you think Spencer has yet to tell his parents about his engagement to Heidi? Do you think Jen was right to ask Heidi if she’s making a mistake as she’s standing there in her gown?
• Do you think Whitney made a mistake when she went drinking with the band? Do you think Lisa had the right to be upset?
I’m very interested in hearing what you guys think about last night’s episode.
